Winter Apples

Winter Apples

COVER | Igor and Marina

Winter Apples (oil on canvas). Working as a husband-and-wife team, the Russian-born duo Igor Kozlovsky and Marina Sharapova collaborate on each painting. Marina possesses an excellent subtle touch for realistic drawing and is capable of creating new images on the basis of the works of older artists, particularly those of the Italian and Dutch Renaissance. Igor’s specialty is a subtle sense for color, a wonderful appreciation for the tactile nature of paint, canvas, and wood, and an intuitive feel for how to play with abstract images. With their finely tuned sense of all that is enigmatic, seductive, and dreamlike in life, Igor and Marina wholeheartedly embrace their surreal perspective by forcing us to enter their invented new world. Their work can be seen at Caldwell Snyder Gallery, Union Square, San Francisco, 415-392-2299, www.CaldwellSnyder.com, and at 1328 Main St., St. Helena, Napa Valley..

Faces of the East Bay

In the Philanthropic Swim

In the Philanthropic Swim

Rockridge residents John Bliss and Kim Thompson may live far removed the gritty flats of East and West Oakland. But this philanthropic couple see themselves as one with the citizens of Oakland, particularly those who are struggling financially, and they’re leading a campaign to get their “financially blessed” peers to invest in the community like they have by funding city programs to teach kids how to swim.
