COVER by Elena Zolotnitsky
Old Tavern (oil painting). Zolotnitsky’s cover art is a grotesque version of 17th-century Dutch and Flemish paintings, which depicted a feigned but plausible reality. Constructed largely from ordinary, observable details, the work of Metsu, Terborch, Vermeer, Van Mieris, and other genre painters depicted narratives but endowed them with abstract concepts. Zolotnitsky has tried to take their concept to another level. The original size of the Old Tavern is 72″ x 56″ (and is available for purchase).
