Anthony Holdsworth spends many Friday mornings painting the Old Oakland Farmers’ Market. “I began my artistic career sketching in the open air market around the Mercato Centrale in Florence, Italy,” he says. “For me, this Oakland market with its proximity to Ratto’s and Caffe 817 and the Victorian architecture that surrounds it is a link to those early days.” A current show of Holdsworth’s paintings of San Francisco and his Global Warming Series runs March 18 to June 1 in the new San Francisco Federal Building’s lobby at 90 7th St. from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Holdsworth opens his studio at 351 Lewis St. in West Oakland the last Sunday of every month from 1 to 6 p.m. He also teaches painting in Oakland and leads painting expeditions to Italy and Mexico.
