Lollipops in Tokyo (acrylic/mixed media on canvas). An award-winning narrative figurative painter, longtime East Bay resident Toby Tover-Krein uses photos from her world travels (recently, she visited Japan, Morocco, and Vietnam) as the basis of her paintings. Other work is based on vintage photos that inspire nostalgia—an emotion she describes as “a twinge in your heart far more powerful than memory alone.” Among other awards, Tover-Krein received the 2001 grand prize in the Arts on Fire V competition at Sanchez Art Center in Pacifica. Her work is on display at The Fine Art of Baseball: 14th Annual Exhibition at the George Krevsky Gallery (77 Geary St., San Francisco; georgekrevskygallery.com) from April 2 to May 28.
