Log Bridge (acrylic on canvas). Carol Aust works in acrylic on canvas and wood panels from her Oakland studio. Her figurative paintings are emotionally charged narrative fragments infused with mysterious tension and secrecy. She often places her figures in precarious environments where anything could happen. Aust’s work consistently features strong and vibrant colors along with engaging and vulnerable figures. Her influences include Emil Nolde, Marc Chagall, Käthe Kollwitz, and the German Expressionists and her work is represented in private collections throughout the United States. She will be having an open studio with 150 other artists at the Hunters Point Shipyard in San Francisco on May 7-8, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Building 101, basement #303.
