La reina 1985 (silkscreen, 32 x 46 inches, 2010). La reina (The Beauty Queen) is from Noviembre 1985, Jacquin’s series of constructed-memory works about the devastating 1985 volcano eruption in Colombia. “The work features iconographic images that still dwell in the memory of my Colombian peers,” says Jacquin, a native of Santa Marta, Colombia. Jacquin received a master’s in fine arts from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1997; her work has appeared in numerous solo and group exhibitions at The de Young Museum, The Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and The Museum of the Legion of Honor. She produced Noviembre 1985 at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, where she is currently an artist in residence; the work is part of the institute’s Kala-Fornia: State of the Art exhibition culminating in a gala auction on April 30, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. To pre-view art online, get info, and purchase tickets: kala.org/auction. Other Kala works will be on exhibit at artMRKT San Francisco, an international art fair, May 20-22, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. (6 p.m. Sun) at Concourse Exhibition Center in San Francisco.
