I Love Liberty

I Love Liberty

COVER: Roy Lichtenstein

I Love Liberty, 1982 (Screenprint). Next to Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein is considered the great artist of the Pop Art movement. After some art training in New York at the Art League, Lichtenstein served in the U.S. Army in Europe during War II, and then received his master’s. Like Warhol, he worked in the commercial graphic business for a while—making designs and decorating shop windows. Lichtenstein’s career changed drastically with his first painting in the style of a comic strip—Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. Working frequently with stencils, he producing rows of oversized dots that made his paintings or prints look like a mass publication product. A collection of Lichtenstein’s mixed media works is available at the Meyerovich Gallery in San Francisco. Contact the gallery by calling (415) 421-7171 or visit www.meyerovich.com. I Love Liberty ©Estate of Roy Lichtenstein 2005.
