Falling on Hard Times is a 2007 painting by Emeryville artist M. Louise Stanley that continues her exploration of the human condition, modern-day romance and political issues. Stanley’s recent paintings are based on research gathered during the “Art Lover’s Tours” that she organizes and leads to Italy, Spain, France and England each year. Her themes stem from an interest in the transformation myths of Ovid, sainthood, the cult of the Virgin and current events. An award-winning artist and educator, Stanley has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows and publications, and her work is in the permanent collections of many museums. Her paintings and journals can be viewed at www.lulu.artist-at-large.com. She can be contacted directly at lulu@locrian.com for information on her “Art Lover’s Tours.” Stanley is one of 91 artists featured in the 21st Annual Emeryville Art Exhibition. This juried exhibition is free to the public and open daily Oct. 6-28, 11am-6pm, at 5885 Hollis Street, EmeryStation East, Emeryville. For information call (510) 652-6122 or visit www.emeryarts.org.
