Edward the Entrepreneurial Elephant (2016, digital painting). Mike S. Young is a Bay Area native who received his BFA in illustration from CCA and his MFA from the Bauhaus University. As an illustrator, he has worked in various fields, from book publishing to video game production. As a fine artist, he explores themes around culture, politics, and mortality, drawing inspiration from both the fantastical and the mundane. Coming from a background in illustration, he uses narrative to help connect viewers to a piece and relay ideas that might otherwise be missed. The cover art is an illustration from an unreleased children’s book, and it depicts the elephant hawking his useless wares to a rural family of curious meerkats. See Young’s work online at www.MikeSYoung.com and in person at 4th Street Fine Art in Berkeley.
